MIMS – He’ll Make A Believer Out Of You (Interview + Music)

mimsinterviewTo a lot of people, MIMS (Shawn Mims) is a ringtone rapper and a one-hit wonder. However, Mims look at himself and what he brings to the game in a very different light and he can make a believer out of you. He’s a well balanced act, knowing not only to how to make hit records, but is fully knowledgeable of what he’s capable of. You can hear it in his voice; he has a full knowledge of self, something that some artists going into their second album has may have trouble demonstrating. Mims aims to prove it again with his latest effort, “Guilt”, which will drop on April 7th. On a personal note (let’s keep it real, I try not to sugar coat things), I wasn’t that impressed with Mims before accepting the interview. My mind soon changed afterwards.  (The interview after the jump)

Exclusive MIMS Interview: March 23, 2008 + Preview

Basically, I want to promote this interview as much as possible before actually releasing it. But some people think I didn’t actually did the interview. So, I decided to throw up a preview of said interview. So what exactly can you expect Mims to talk about? Here are the details:

  • His reasons why “This Is Why I’m Hot” was one of the hottest tracks of 2007.
  • Why he’s not a “ringtone rapper” and how he can’t be a one-hit wonder.
  • He’s declaring an open challenge to other artists (and you) about his music.
  • Why he called his album “Guilt”.
  • His feelings about Barack Obama and how Barack Obama inspired him.
  • His current plans and things most of his fans didn’t know about him (nor Wikipedia).
  • Social Media & why all artists should “get lost” if they don’t take it seriously.
  • And who exactly ARE you talking to on his MySpace, Twitter and Facebook profiles.
  • Plus: Why does he feel connected with me? (You got to read the post and hear what he did)

The following clip is just a close to 2 minute preview just to tease you. Yes, feel free to get pissed at when I cut it off.

Ryan Leslie – How to download a FREE* Copy! (Updated)

RyanLeslie

Updated (April 13th 2009): As of March 19, 2009, Spiral Frog stopped operations. Because of DRM restrictions, any downloads from the site will ceased to stop working within the next couple of weeks. I only noticed this over the weekend when I tried to download the new Mims album for review purposes.

*Not totally free. But you’ll see what I mean as the post rolls on…

So, you can’t find the newest Ryan Leslie album. You want to hear the album before you buy it. Maybe you are saving money for something more important. (Or maybe you are… cheap. Don’t worry, I’m not here to pass judgment.) I’m going to tell you how to get Ryan Leslie (or any other album) for free… with a few catches.

SpiralFrog is a music download shop that allows you to download music in Windows Media Audio (WMA) format for free. They allow you up to 30 days to listen to the music you download and if you want to listen to it more, just go back to the site and renew your subscription.

Now, because it uses DRM, you can only listen to it on a Windows computer and on “any portable player or music-enabled phone that supports WMA files.”. This means no iPod/iPhone. And not even Zune (since Zune have it’s own protection scheme that even Microsoft themselves don’t want to touch.

While you do have to renew the license every 30 days, it will give you a chance to review to review music and keep them for as long as the service is around. So, if you want Ryan Leslie for free*, then sign up and download at SpiralFrog (Ryan Leslie Link).

However, for true ownership of the music (and to play it on whatever you want), you’ll have to go to Ryan Leslie on Amazon.com. They are affordable MP3 files that you can play on any player (yes, even the Zune and the iPods).

Hope this helps you out!

Skillz – Rap Up 2008 (Audio)

Well, it’s the last day of 2008. Every year since 2002, Skillz drops what he called “The Rap Up”, recapping all of the year’s events.
So, I might as well introduce “The Thought Remixer’s Bin“, a place where I’ll store files for y’all to enjoy. The best part about it? I get to control what stays there and for how long. :) Anywayz, here’s the first file now part of the Bin… Skillz’s Rap Up for 2008. And NOT the Radio Rip that was posted on other websites. Enjoy!

The Blackbird Debate – Radio and Video

I done an Interview on the Techno Color Radio Show, a new Podcast series on Blog Talk Radio. They talked with 40A’s Ed Young. My interest on Blackbird and testing it prompted one of the Twitter peeps (@iluvblackwomen) to ask me on his show to debate the subject.

So, here’s my take on the subject. Please note that I’m not the world’s greatest speaker and I’ll openly admit that. While I did prep for my interview, execution clearly shows I’m not ready for interviews. Toastmasters, here I come!

At the same time, I did found this video clip, finally putting a face to Ed Young. Since the browser was launched on Monday, he’s been speaking and defending Blackbird, not from the technological standpoint, but from standpoint where he should have a right to produce this type of browser. He sounds a bit naive about the web and how it works.

Angela, who appeared in the video, not only talked about her stance on Blackbird and Rushmore Drive, she also talked posted up a blog post on her blog, Black Web 2.0 as well as Tech Crunch about the very issue that Blackbird “sang” up.

My post, which focuses on the browser’s features, is not against a black browser, but more of how it should help our community. Just because something is “black” does not mean I will recommend it.
