It’s ironic how come I don’t have posts about poets, and yet I’m one. So, here’s to the first one I’ll talk about. Claudia Alick performed her work “Employed Broke” on the 5th season of Def Poetry. The line that reeled me in? The first one, of course.
Living in this city ain’t no joke.
I’m working 40 hours a week just to stay broke.
Sometimes I feel that way.
With the way the U.S. economy is going, I think everyone feels this way… and I feel Ms. Alick express it the best with her mix of spoken word, singing and energetic acting… just in case you are wondering why her hands are by her hair like she’s trying to grab you.

I googled myself today and happened upon your blog. Glad you were feeling “employed poor”. It comes off funny but it’s a big issue for folks in the united states who are stuggling to stay afloat, working full time, and just trying to get by. My next poem on this issue “what debt grows”.
write on!
peace and poetry
