A Film About The Female Emcees – Say My Name

"Say My Name" Promo Poster  One of the films that is making a buzz at SXSW 09 is a documentary called “Say My Name”, a film which focuses on the female emcee. In the game where it’s male dominated, it’s nice to see female emcees bring a different POV to the game. It features interviews by Rah Digga, Jean Grae, Erykah Badu, Estelle and newcomers Chocolate Thai, Invincible Miz Korona and (sadly may I add) the locked up Remy Ma. As appearing in the documentary are pioneers like MC Lyte, Roxxanne Shante, and Monie Love. Hopefully, this documentry will answer the questions about the lack of female rappers and the lengths they have to go through to be treated fairly.

Check out the trailer after the jump.

The Case of the Fake People: Keisha Knight Pulliam on Twitter

Keisha Knight Pulliam... or so we thoughtWere you following Keisha Knight Pulliam on Twitter? 5,000+ followers, which included celebrities, were all fooled by a prankster, proofing a point that no one is safe from a prankster. (Yes, I was fooled as well. I followed a lot of people, and I rarely talk to celebrities on there because I don’t really see a point.)

The account was created innocently as “K_KnightPulliam,” and with tweets that sounded like it was from the real person. The gig was up when she followed some celebrity friends that knew the real Pulliam was not using it at all. The user of the account then decided to “Put Em On Blast” and changed the name to FakeRudyHuxtbl.

Before “she” left Twitter, she placed celebrity’s phone numbers on Twitter and warned future users that anyone can fake a celebrity. *rolls eyes*

(The bye-bye message after the jump)

Lauderdale, Honolulu and Ann Arbor as they prepare for Youth Speaks’ 2008 Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Finals. It’s narrated by Queen Latifah, but the real stars are the young poets.

This series is of course an HBO exclusive. However, they was kind enough to showcase the first episode for free, which you can catch after the jump.

Ever wondered what happens if there’s a hidden camera show, but instead of doing practical jokes, it does one based on racism? How would you handle it? Crackle, a Sony owned site, decided to find out with a show called “True Colors”. It’s a show with Dwayne Smith ("Lonely Girl"), Lisa Bohacek and Circle of Confusion serving as executive producers of the series, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television. However, the show is not on TV, but on the Internet: Crackle.com.

The goal of giving form to a complex situation like the credit crisis is to quickly supply the essence of the situation to those unfamiliar and uninitiated. This project was completed as part of my thesis work in the Media Design Program, a graduate studio at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
