R. City – Losin’ It

First off, these guys are good friends of mine. So in a way, it’s nice to see them blow up. Everyone of us that knows them is extremely proud of them and they deserve this moment.

The song is the first major debut. They are mostly in the background, backing up or penning major songs. The tune is pretty catchy and it does sounds like a summer hit.

However, some people don’t know who they are, so I’m telling you. The reason they seem so… er… brotherly with each other is because… well, they are brothers. They have no problems expressing themselves as brothers and it has always been their style. I read a lot of comments speaking about about Theron (aka Da Spokesman: the darker one) and Timothy (aka Don’t Talk Much: the lighter one) and their looks. I never notice that they are ugly, just talented. But I do understand… they don’t “fit” the pop style. They are not suppose to. NONE of the VI artists (from Ripper to even me) will fit that style. They will not be the last VI artist to hit the mainstream and/or get major screentime. So, you better get use to it.

It’s about time they get their screentime. So, enjoy it boys. Just remember… to remember.

Edit June 23, 2008: Does this post look extremely different from the last time you say this? Well, over the weekend, I thought to myself I came down a little bit too hard on the guys rise. These guys are extremely busy. I doubt a lot of people catch the first post, but if you did, you might have caught the wrong intentions. So, sorry about that. I took my words back.

I’m Here… Somewhere…

This is a quick update to let you guys know that I’m still around. Just having a lazy moment.

Yes, lazy moment. I’m not going to blame it on writer’s block because I don’t have one. There’s 20+ posts that I’ve been meaning to finish. A few about Obama, a couple about the Black Experience, and one about Al Sharpton (a very eye-opening one). But laziness hit me. Well, that and a disappointment with a current client. Like huge disappointment. I can’t publicly diss people… but don’t worry… there will be a comic about it!

Anywayz, forgive me for my inactive side. I will post when I can. I’m also going to announce something as far as major events for the site eventually. Just hang tight.

Let This Be A Lesson To Y’All!!!

So… you guys are coming here and noticed a bit of a change up, huh?

Well, I upgraded without backing up. Hence why the blog look so different. This is the last time I’ll work in a home where people can just WALK in at anytime (I got distracted. Still no excuse).

The good news is, all of the posts are still here.

I’ll be updating and tweaking the blog in the next few days. I have an announcement I’m going to make. It got everything to do with the new version of this site, so stay tune.

Also, I would like to say a “Happy Father’s Day” to the REAL fathers. The ones that are actually there to take care of their kids. While I don’t have a Father’s Day special, I do have a post about Rhymefest stepping up his game as a dad.

Upgrading Your Skill Level in 24 Hours

Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, HA! I’m FAMOUS!

I wrote an article for Freelance Switch, one of my favorite blogs. It’s a “guideline” on how to upgrade your skill level using Parkinson’s Law in a “controlled situation”. The article is penned under my real name and they made it less wordy (something I’m always guilty of), but you can clearly tell that it’s my style of writing (you know, the “get real with yourself” style).

People are commenting, and it resonates with a lot of freelancers. They are also reviewing this article on other sites. I’m amazed with the response and feedback…

… and upset that my MAIN BUSINESS site is not UPDATED! EEK! Betta get to work!

So, today’s linkup as well as the make up for the Productive Monday, I present to you:

How To Upgrade Your Skill Level in 24 Hours

C.R.E.A.M. Chess Rules Everything Around Me

wuchessAnd to think a few years ago, Cash Rules Everything Around Me (the title’s a knockoff of “C.R.E.A.M.” for those who don’t know). But now, RZA aka Bobby Digital (who’s not related to me in any way, shape or form) helped launched what seems to be one of the coolest ideas a social network geared towards Hip-Hop Chess players. Members will be able to play the timeless game of Chess against other members and maybe even celebrities. They will also get a chance to compete in tournaments and support scholarships. You can even make “Chess Clans” (that’s “team” in non-gamer talk). I might be tempted to make a “Life-Remixed” clan…

Getting back to the hip-hop theme, they will also have exclusive mp3 and video downloads.

This is a good idea and an excellent example of how marketing and music can be a good combination. Wu Tang always promote the idea of mental building via chess and this is a surprising twist on not only the social networking game, but for the Wu Tang as well.

I’ve been meaning to get a game with Method Man, yo…

EDITED: I neglected to add one more fact: It will cost $48 annually to join. No wonder they decided to throw in a free t-shirt. Will it work? Perhaps. But the average hip-hop head don’t seem to understand “economics”. But only time will tell, ya know?
