What Does BET and Indiana Jones Have In Common?

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL Blogger Tony Muhammad put up a rather interesting post called “BET and the Subliminal Culture of White Supremacy”. It opens up with a review of how BET changed when Viacom brought it out. Then, it talks about a recent episode of 106 & Park and it’s promotion of the movie “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”.

He saw a lot of symbolism within the whole episode and decided to share his thoughts. So, for today’s link up, let’s explore this essay.

Keeping Up With the Joneses: BET and the Subliminal Culture of White Supremacy

Before outing hip-hop, there was questioning it…

Before the book “Hiding In Hip Hop” and all the rage, there was a film that question the subject of masculinity, sexuality and such in Hip-Hop. And that film was “Hip-Hop: Beyond the Beats and Rhymes”. Above is a clip from the movie. I hope you’ll go cop it and come back to discuss it.

My favorite part is when they interview a white woman and she was sounding… so educational about her stuff. Also, check out the “Colored people” remark.

My other favorite part is Nelly… sliding a credit card down a woman’s crack conversation. Now, don’t get me wrong. While I think it’s degrading (the whole damn song is), why focus on that moment? The WHOLE songs degrading…

… but sometimes I think “do we take ourselves too seriously?” After all, where’s the outrage when the following happened?

I’m going to talk about this film in the near future… along with my thoughts of the book. Honestly, I want to hear your thoughts about the book. I might not read it. Not because I’m homophobic (this is something I’ve gotten over), but more because… well, I don’t care. I pretty much looked at an animated dick and don’t think I lost my manhood. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to want to kiss a guy or poke him… or having him poke me. That’s about as far as it goes.

In Defense of My Last Soulja Boy Post…

Alright. I know some of y’all are surprised that I made an entry about Soulja Boy. I’m more surprised that some of y’all didn’t catch I was being sarcastic. I don’t consider Soulja Boy as a hip-hop artist, but as a rapper… and not a good one at that. But I was showing y’all how lyrical he think he is. If you think that I was being supportive of Soulja Boy, that’s clearly NOT the case.

However, in honor of celebrating the good in people, I’ll say one thing I like about Soulja Boy.

He can see clearly through the writing on his glasses. You can’t front. That’s VERY hard to do.

Capleton – Pain

I’m pretty much listen to a lot of things. For Kenny Rodgers to be used in one of my posts surprise one visitor. However, unless you really know me, this maybe another surprise. I listen to dancehall and reggae. Figured, share the love. :)

So, allow me to introduce you to Capleton is one of my few favorite root reggae artists. It’s his latest song, Pain.

Remy Ma and "Black Injustice" Don’t Mix

newremymaSo, Remy Ma finally got a slice of reality. According to allhiphop.com, she was sentenced to 8 years in prison, the minimum sentence, a few hours ago. She tried to get marry to Papoose while in prison over the weekend, but failed because Papoose allegedly had handcuff keys and is now banned from the prison for six months. In a pervious post, I talked about the outcome of the verdict and “advice” Remy Ma just to take what she can.

One commenter, “Buttaluv” (who wasn’t brave enough to even leave a real e-mail address) used poor logic and used a weak argument about Rodney King, OJ Simpson, and TI as examples. Clearly a Remy Ma supporter (or fan, which is actually a LOWER level than supporter), I doubt she saw the point of the post, which was that her attorney is using the argument that she didn’t mean to use a gun and/or didn’t mean to fire the victim, just threaten her.
